Characterization of heterogeneous, fractured media is difficult with conventional hydrologic techniques. Waste disposal at the U.S. Department of Energy facilities near Oak Ridge, Tennessee, has created concerns about groundwater contamination that require better understanding of these complex media. We have developed new tracer test techniques and monitoring techniques for fractured porous media. These methods are being tested at field sites with intense monitoring networks.
Many of our field sites are open for collaborative research. If you are interested in conducting tests or finding out more about datasets available for analysis, check out the contacts in the following Web links (and future updates).
